Posted by

So sorry Jeeperz, but we have an unavoidable conflict that’s come up on the 12th, and have to move this out a week to the 19th.  Really hope you all can still make this date, we apologize if we messed you up. Same time and meeting place, just a week later. I will bring brownies 😉

  • When: Sunday, February 19
  • Meeting time: 8:00am
  • Meeting location: Fry’s Market Place , 155 W. Combs Rd, San Tan Valley (west most side of parking by gas station) located on Ironwood Rd.(also called Gantzel Rd.) and Combs. Participants can top off with fuel at the Frys’ gas station and get drinks and snacks at the grocery store.
  • Departure Time: 8:30am sharp

If you’re running late, please contact Brian (602)849-5440 so we can wait for you. If no phone call we will be leaving at 8:30am for the trail head.

Bring a snack or lunch, and we will plan to find a spot to stop along the trail.

Box Canyon trail is a 27.3 mile lightly trafficked point-to-point trail located near Superior.

The main feature of this route is a narrow Box Canyon at the southern end. Although rare, this section is susceptible to dangerous flash floods. It’s a good idea to stay out of the canyon if heavy rains are predicted If the weather turns stormy, we will likely reschedule. The canyon is open all year except a few weeks a year when military training exercises are in progress. Dates of closure are posted only at the main entrance at Cottonwood Canyon Road and Mineral Mountain Road. The area is closed if red flags are flying.

Some rate this trail easy but there are several moderate-size rocks to get over. Stock 4×4 SUVs with good ground clearance should be okay. You may bottom out occasionally but damage is unlikely.
